Nobody knows about any conflict where New Zealand was actually succesful or did something spectacular. In New Zealand the only war anybody knows about is the Gallipoli campaign in WW1. To make us remeber the horrors of war so war is less likely to happen again. In today's world we remeber and dwell on the failed campaigns these days. You think no one else understands? War is made to look bad becuase it is bad. And when we came back we did not understand why? And lastg month, April 2015, was 40 years since the fall of South Vietnam, and the only people that lost Vietnam were the South Vietnamese, and many here still do not understand that simple fact.Īnd still occasionally when an old Huey flies over, it is the sound of those blades that make me stop, and reflect on a youth lost, long before the 'fun' of video games. How many 19yr old gamers of today could of accepted that draft notice and actually play in the real game.we sat there glued to out TV's watching the war, fearing we would be called, fearing that letter in the mail, and watched America change firsthand. And the class is always filled when offered. BTW I teach a history class on the Subject as adjunct instructor.mostly older people 45+ take the class to understand what actually happened, and what their fathers and the whole culture went through, rather than how 'cool' it would be to play a game on the war. The history of Vietnam is popular, making it into an arcade shooter.not so much. And they too have the 20-30 year old players. Popular here and there, and totally ignored elsewhere, but still overall, a pure business loss for Battlefront Minitures. Even the Flames of War Vietnam themed minitures game based out of New Zealand is have trouble making inroads in the US. I do understand the business and political correctness of the undertaking, as it has been discussed in many forums other than here.
